With the introduction of Windows 95, the free version of Ahnenblatt was released. With the release of Windows 95 Ahnenblatt now supports online lookup with the MyHeritage genealogical database. MyHeritage was a free service offered by the National Genealogical Society in cooperation with the United States Army Corp of Genealogy. The application allows the user to perform searches for any surname, given name or maiden name from the database as well as other family records that might be associated with that name. There are several other genealogy applications for Windows that support the lookup and access to the information stored in the database. As this is a free service, the information is not available for download.
The application does support the online lookup. The information can be entered manually in order to input the proper data or the database can be directly entered by clicking the "add to myHeritage" button. This application is designed for the free version of Ahnenblatt. There are three databases to choose from with the free version. This means the user can access the databases through the free versions of this program. The free database contains records for the ancestors of the user that were born during the first half of the 1900s or before.
The second database available in the free version includes information on people that were born after the first half of the 1900s or after the 1900s but before the First World War. The third database provides complete information on people who were born between the first half of the 1900s and before the Second World War. All three of the databases are searchable by typing in the full names or last names of the person, city, state or province and the surname. If the person's full name is available, only that name will be displayed. If the person's full name is not available, a partial name will be displayed.
